Clinical Significance

Clinical Significance

Troponin I

  • High Risk Troponin I may indicate a recent acute myocardial infarction (MI).
  • High values should be considered together with signs and symptoms of heart disease (chest pain, pressure, or tightness), and/or electrocardiogram, stress test and other CVD diagnostic modalities.

Treatment Options

Treatment Options

Troponin I

  • Consider careful evaluation of CVD status with history and physical exam.
  • Troponin I elevations may also be observed in patients with ischemic or non-ischemic heart failure, cardiomyopathy, kidney disease, sepsis, uncontrolled diabetes, myocarditis, pulmonary embolism, heart contusion, and drug induced cardiotoxicity.
  • Endurance sports such as marathon running may elevate Troponin I
