Test Code 1106
Test Details
Troponin I
Troponins are structural proteins of cardiac myocytes that are released into circulation after cardiac myocyte cell damage providing earlier identification of myocardial injury.
Methodology
Chemiluminescence

Lab Values
Troponin I
Female
- Optimal: ≤34 ng/L
- Increased Risk: >34 ng/L
Male
- Optimal: ≤53 ng/L
- Increased Risk: >53 ng/L
Clinical Significance
Troponin I
- High Risk Troponin I may indicate a recent acute myocardial infarction (MI).
- High values should be considered together with signs and symptoms of heart disease (chest pain, pressure, or tightness), and/or electrocardiogram, stress test and other CVD diagnostic modalities.
Treatment Options
Troponin I
- Consider careful evaluation of CVD status with history and physical exam.
- Troponin I elevations may also be observed in patients with ischemic or non-ischemic heart failure, cardiomyopathy, kidney disease, sepsis, uncontrolled diabetes, myocarditis, pulmonary embolism, heart contusion, and drug induced cardiotoxicity.
- Endurance sports such as marathon running may elevate Troponin I
